RunStart support
From alarm to first steps.
Clear answers for setup, permissions, GPS, mission pauses, and subscriptions—based on how the current iPhone app works.
01
Getting started
What is free?
Your first setup and your first completed RunStart are free. During first setup, the app creates a one-time alarm within the next 12 hours. A missed attempt does not use the first-free completion.
What happens when the alarm sounds?
Tap Start Run from the alarm. RunStart opens the mission, checks the required permissions, acquires a usable location signal, and begins verifying outdoor movement toward your selected distance.
The current implementation is built for iPhone and targets iOS 26 or later.
02
Permissions
Alarm permission
Alarm authorization is required so RunStart can schedule and present its alarm. If it is disabled, open iPhone Settings and allow alarms for RunStart before scheduling again.
Location and Motion & Fitness
RunStart requires Location Services, Precise Location, and Motion & Fitness to verify a mission. Location tracking runs for the active mission and stops when the mission completes, is missed, or its original 30-minute window expires.
Optional notifications
Regular notification permission is separate from alarm permission. It is optional and is used only for local reminders such as trial-ending or re-engagement reminders. Declining these reminders does not turn off an already authorized RunStart alarm.
03
GPS and movement
“Finding GPS”
Move outdoors with a clear view of the sky and keep the phone with you. The mission begins measuring once RunStart has a usable, recent location.
“GPS Limited” or “Poor GPS”
Check that Precise Location is enabled. Step away from tall buildings, covered areas, or other places that can weaken the signal. RunStart filters low-quality or stale readings rather than counting them toward your distance.
Movement is hard to detect
Walk or run steadily with your iPhone on your body. RunStart combines location progress with recent Motion & Fitness evidence, so stationary GPS drift should not complete a mission.
“Moving too fast”
RunStart rejects movement that appears vehicle-like. Slow down, continue on foot, and wait for normal outdoor movement to be detected.
04
Temporary pauses
A pause quiets the current alarm and schedules it to return. It does not extend the mission’s original 30-minute completion window.
If the original window expires while paused, the attempt is recorded as missed.
05
Subscriptions and trial access
After the first completed RunStart, an active subscription is required to create or start another mission. Eligible customers may receive a seven-day free trial through Apple. The App Store purchase sheet provides the current localized price, billing terms, and trial eligibility before confirmation.
How do I cancel?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple. On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, choose Subscriptions, select RunStart, and use Apple’s cancellation controls. Cancellation and renewal timing are governed by the App Store account and terms shown at purchase.
RunStart does not currently provide its own refund workflow. App Store purchases and refund requests are handled through Apple.
06
Restore Purchases
If an active subscription is not recognized, open RunStart’s subscription screen and choose Restore Purchases. The app asks Apple to synchronize purchases and restores access when Apple returns a verified, active entitlement.
If restoration does not succeed, confirm that the App Store is using the account that made the purchase and try again after checking your connection.
